Matsui Sakiko played “My Graduation” by SPEED in TEPPEN January 5th, 2013.
holly mother of skills….
Holy mother of skills indeed.
However, I feel as if she’s on the edge of something. The way she plays her piano shows a ferocity that is less palpable in her AKB48 performances. The thing about that ferocity, is that it makes her piano playing sound rather aggressive.

Goosehouse did a cover of Gingham Check
A fitting cover to a song that has a heartful core. I think this is a splendid rebuke to those who think Gingham Check isn’t good.
That being said, I think they should have played it more up-tempo.
AKB48 UZA 後半 Perfomance @ Janken Taikai 2012
To my knowledge, this is possibly the first time AKB48 has done anything like this musically. It doesn’t sound like a typical idol song. And the dance interlude in this performance is arguably outside of idol territory (though it’s unmistakably pop). The black-dominated theme and some of the English lyrics aspire to a poetic edge.
That being said, if you take out the AKB48 tag from this song, it can feel middle of the road.
I’m holding out for the PV so I can discern the music a little better since the PA system (especially the live mixing) didn’t do a good job of delivering the sound IMO.
But with all that said, I’m actually happy with the direction AKS is taking with this single.

After all the Sashi drama, I’m happy to see this senbatsu lineup in one whole photo.

In andante spianato et grande polonaise brillante, Sakiko’s playing is palpably rough. Rough in the sense that she doesn’t play delicately. Instead, it seems that she likes attack and intricacy.
While her rendition of revolutionary étude shows a more subdued style of play, her playing in most other pieces are -dare I say it- aggressive.
I believe that the way a person plays a musical instrument shows the depths of that person’s soul as well as that person’s personality.
From Sakiko’s performances, I feel much poignancy, aggression, loneliness, and above all, strength. There’s so much duality between her piano performances and her performances as a part of AKB48. That only goes to show the psychological gamut of Sakippe’s dear soul.
As music is the voice of the soul, Sakippe’s musical voice is a highly intricate, strong, and ultimately a beautiful one.

This is exactly how the center of AKB48 should look.
The future is in good hands with Queen Yuko at the center.

Mitsumune Kaoru nowhere to be seen. Ranran gets votes, but considerably lower than Paruru.. which makes sense. I feel bad for Oya Shizuka who drops way down. Also sad for Amina whose position also fell. And Kojiharu seems to be no longer a part of the Kami-7 in this election.
Good news for Yuihan, though. Her position looks good at 12th (which is up 7 spots). Interesting enough, Sae climbs up a spot. Good for her. Miichan stays at her 15th spot. That’s quite a good feat, considering the huge influx of contenders.
All in all, this is a highly interesting preliminary result.
I still hope Mitsumune Kaoru will chart, though.
In my opinion, the brightest set of eyes throughout the whole PV.
